There we were one balmy summers eve, strolling the streets of Glenelg, when hunger struck. Neither myself nor my companions were well acquainted with the area so we thought we would try our luck at the Marina. Red Rock Noodle Bar seemed to have the most vegetarian options on the menu and its price bracket was more reasonable than some of its neighbours. This winning combination was enough to lure us in.
The staff had clearly been under the pump as it took several moments to seat us in the outside area for lack of clear tables. Also, they were one person down. This, in time, became abundantly clear. However, the friendly staff did their best to make amends throughout the night.
Red Rock is a noodle bar and so noodles were what we had. We shared three different vegetarian noodle dishes, each with a very unique flavour. This, I think, is commendable (when I cook stir fries of any variety they inevitably end up tasting the same). None of the dishes we tried, however, knocked us over with flavour or presentation. The use of ingredients was neither unique nor innovative. One upside was that tofu could be requested in all of these dishes, which is a great opt-in option for protein starved vegos.
The slow service was slightly compensated for by friendliness. The food was OK. No more, no less. And the restaurant won points on ambience for its agreeable surrounds.
