If you feel like taking a break from the big smoke of Adelaide, head for the hills! One weekend we happened across the sweet town of Stirling, which is really worth a visit, particularly on market days (fourth Sunday of the month).

Me and my companions were in the market for some lunch.  For reasons that I won’t go into, one of our party wasn’t wearing any shoes.  This was unforseen. And while we scoped for potential shoeless-friendly venues we realised how severely this impaired our options in Stirling, where there are numerous cafes and restaurants, many of which are highly presentable.

Nonetheless, we thought we would try our luck at Ruby’s Organic Café.  Perhaps because of the kindness of the staff, or perhaps because there was a flurry of service, my shoeless companion managed to go unnoticed.

In our team we had a vegetarian and a Celiac.  Ruby’s Organic Café had a wide range of options to cater for both these diets.  Most of the meals at Ruby’s have been pre-prepared such as quiches, pastries, and frittatas and are heated to order.  With many of the lunch options you are able to choose a combination of exquisite salads to accompany your selected dish that included ingredients such as quinoa. It would be worth just having the salads alone!

For café style fare, Ruby’s food was delectable. One of the only draw backs to Ruby’s was its slow service.  It was busy, however I would have thought this to be expected on a weekend. The slow service was made up for by the friendliness of the staff. The relaxed and warm atmosphere of the café also encouraged us to be a bit more laidback.  A bonus for the café is that it is licensed, which was a pleasant surprise for the thirstier of our crew.

Ruby’s was able to snuffle up some extra points from its commitment to sustainability.  The ability of the café to cater for a variety of dietary requirements was also impressive and Ruby’s did this with such gastronomic skill too! So if you find yourself in Stirling, with or without shoes, try Ruby’s Organic Café!
